Moyes “Never Envisaged” a Difficult Start to United Reign- The Scots Letter to Fans

Manchester United manager David Moyes has written an open letter to the club’s season ticket holders, thanking them for their unwavering support while also admitting he never foresaw a difficult season for the Premier League champions.

Moyes succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson, who ended his 26 years as United boss by winning a 13th league title, on 1 July.
However, United lie seventh after only 13 wins from 27 Premier League games.

“While I knew that this job would be a challenge when I took it on, the difficult season we have experienced was not something that I envisaged, which I am sure is the case as well for you supporters – and my players, staff and I am desperate to compensate for that,” Moyes said in the letter.

The Good Thing Moyes Did in His First Season at United Was Reaching the Champions League Last 16 With a Game to Spare, But Will It Last?

League defeats at the use-to-be-a-fortress Old Trafford by West Brom, Everton, Newcastle and Tottenham are part of eight game losses suffered in Moyes’ first reign in a disappointing season that has seen the side lose out of the FA Cup to Swansea and trail 2-0 in the round of 16 of the Uefa Champions League against Greek champions Olympiacos.

“You are accustomed to seeing a successful Manchester United and the backing you have given the players and me throughout the season has been incredible,” Moyes continued in his letter.

“Away from home the travelling fans have remained the best in the country, while at Old Trafford your unwavering faith has been noticeable and hugely welcomed.

“Supporting your team when they are winning is easy, but much harder when things are not going as well, and the loyalty you have shown us has been magnificent.

“I have absolutely no doubt we will see great winning sides here again.”

He said that United needed to transform “Old Trafford back into the fortress it has long been renowned as, and we will do everything in our power to get the positive performances and results to do that”.

Put Olympiacos Loss Blame on Me- Moyes

Posted in Sport with tags , on February 26, 2014 by asotechm

Manchester United manager David Moyes has taken “responsibility” of Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to Olympiacos.

The Greek Super League champions will head to Old Trafford in three weeks’ time with a healthy advantage to protect and, even their opponents’ hot and cold form in the ongoing campaign offers them the opportunity to fancy a Champions League last-eight chances.

“I take responsibility, it’s my team and we have to play better,” said Moyes. “We can do, and the one thing is there’s still a second game to come.

“There is a second game and we will do all we can to turn it around.”

A dismal performance from the Premier League champions had them produce only one shot on target in the 89th minute, as Robin van Persie fired over after a useful cross from Chris Smalling, who was wonderfully redeployed to the right-back on the night.

United had far more of the ball than Olympiakos did, with 60.5% of possession, with 25.4% played in United’s attacking third… Opta Stats.

Many will question the exclusion of United’s teenage sensation Adnan Januzaj or the remarkable lack of drive and the numbers of turnovers managed by the visitors.

“We didn’t offer enough on the night to create a goal. They have a very good home record so it wasn’t unexpected.

That’s the worst we’ve played in Europe, we didn’t deserve to get anything,” Moyes added on his side’s inability to get a meaningful away goal.

“There is undoubtedly talent at Manchester United but we didn’t show it tonight. We are determined to put it right and we have the opportunity to do that.

“The players are hurting. Old Trafford has seen some great nights in the past and we hope to see another one.”

The last time United overturned a two-goal aggregate deficit in Europe was 30 years ago, when captain Bryan Robson led them to a 3-0 win over Barcelona at Old Trafford in the last eight of the now-defunct Cup Winners’ Cup.
